I feel that it's time I write about my trip down to the lovely Arcata, nestled in the heart of Humboldt County--known for it's rich marijuana...mmmm....
Monday, 7-3-00: People don't know how to travel, they're absolutey obnoxious and I think I could do the world a great service by simply killing them. Anyways, I spent the evening with Quinn (of course--since I was staying with her), Alicia, Matt, and Erland. I went skiing with Erland back in 7th grade and haven't seen him since. Trippy. It was totally cool hearing about people from my past. I got all nostalgic, and kinda sad too.
Tuesday, 7-4-00, Happy Fourth of July: Fucking crazy day (wrote that in my actual journal). Started off at the plaza (like the street fair in the U-District, but a hell of a lot smaller and more of a social event than for shopping). Anyways, ran into a few old friends: Laurie, Lynne, Emily, Reed, and Lindsey. The part that brought back the most memory was that the volunteer fire department is still selling beer on tap. I always feel like I'm caught back in the 60's there. Anyways, that night I saw the Arcata fireworks and we stood in front of these two families that almost seriously broke out into a fight. The worst it got was that the one evil bitch was throwing those little ground flower fireworks at the other family. We moved away as to eliminate the chance of catching on fire from flying fireworks. That night we ended up at a party (after I'd already had almost 5 shots of vodka. I got to see more old friends, more Jacoby Creekers (my old K-8 school): Silas, Ben and most importantly, Nick. I know this sounds insane, but I've had a crush on this guy since the second grade. I haven't really talked to him in about 5 years, but I still go weak in the knees when I see him. And he looked so HOT. What I wouldn't give for one night with him.... ::sigh:: I just hope he doesn't read this and get all freaked out by me... I am hoping to get in touch with him via e-mail--since he did give me his e-mail address. Anyways, enough about the 4th. I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays!!
Wednesday, 7-5-00: Today was definitely the most boring day there. Quinn was really sick and basically just wanted to stay home all day. We watched Love Letter which was a cute movie, but not spectacular. Also watched a lot of MTV. Although things got especially boring when she went to bed at 9pm. Left me to watch MTV and Southpark and dink around with my e-mail.
Thursday, 7-6-00: Today was so much better. I spent a bit of time with Quinn's mom, Monica. She took me out to lunch in old town Eureka and we did some shopping at Globe Imports (awesome store, like a Cost Plus, but cooler). Once Quinn got home from work we went grocery shopping to make our "Caress Me Down" Cake. It's become a tradition. Tasted damn good too. After decorating it we went to see Patriot with Amy (she's coming to the UW this fall--woohoo).
Friday, 7-7-00: To entertain myself while Quinn was at work today I called Anne-Marie and we went out to lunch together. We've been friends forever, but I really feel like we've grown apart. She's grown more conservative and I've grown a bit more wild. But I had a good time and we ate some damn good Mexican food. Once Quinn got home we did some shopping on the Plaza. I absolutely love it down there, but Quinn hates it so the trip was short. That night, Monica took us out to Abruzzi--damn good Italian food and scrumptious desserts. Quinn and I decided to just rent a movie that night after we drove around Arcata and saw nothing, absolutely nothing, to do. Watch In and Out --I tried to rent it on my account, but I felt too guilty when they asked me if I still lived at "2050 Pan....." and I had to say No.... oh well. 4 years ago when I was down there I used that old account and we had a free movie left :) After we watched the movie, we got sucked into MTV's soap opera "Undressed." It's not that good, but seriously addictive....
Saturday, 7-8-00: It was like pulling teeth with Quinn today to find something to do. We ended up going to get pizza and then playing video games with Anne-Marie. Quinn gets obsessed with Super Nintendo, but at least it keeps her entertained. After dinner that night we went and saw Scary Movie. It was pretty bad, had some humorous parts, but overall not worth the $7. Came home and watched more "Undressed"--how pathetic is that?
Sunday, 7-9-00: Today was an absolute BLAST. Quinn and I went to the beach and ran around in the waves. I felt like such a little kid. We took a whole bunch of pictures, so if I can find a scanner I'll try to post them. When we got home Quinn took me down to show me what her neighbors (the ones that bought my old house) did to the back yard. They built a fence to block trespassers (but honestly how many people come up in that neighborhood--I could write pages on all the psycho things they've done, but I'll spare you). The funny thing about this fence is that is looking like a freakish beaver damn, but not on any river. I swear these people are serious freaks. Got a good laugh out of it though. Rented another movie that night after dinner (Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels) and then it was more "Undressed" (it was a marathon before the season premier).
If you're reading this first and want to hear about my trip to California last week, scroll down to where the header says "Update about California." If I'd thought about it earlier, I would have done these in backwards order, but I'm not that smart.
Monday, 7-10-00: Got up at 7am this morning to travel back up to Seattle. Overall it was a great trip. I leave Arcata with some good memories (especially seeing Nick) and some great new terms... Quinn and I came up with some great insults and cool new sayings ("that's so central Eureka" or "That's just not kosher with the Road Rules team." Both we like to use profusely).
Made it home around 3:30 and was so tired, but it's good to be home. I really do like it here. Even though it's nice to visit Arcata and see people that I have such intricate histories with, I really do appreciate what I've devellopped here in Seattle. Really makes me appreciate all the friends I have here. I don't think I'd ever go back and chose to not move up here. Only thing I'd change is if I could move Nick up here too...hehe :)
Today's been busy for me. I think I ended up finding a job--had an interview this afternoon. So that's cool. I also called around to a bunch of apartments for next year, but it was all answering machines. Then I went over to Cindy's with Alicia and we made flavored vinegar for Sandi's wedding gift. We're gonna make her a huge basket of homemade stuff (vinegar, candles, soap, etc). I feel so domestic doing this stuff. We also made ourselves some shishkabobs and drank wine. I was feeling a bit tipsy earlier, now it's just because I'm tired. So I'm gonna go to bed. I get to see Matthew tomorrow--haven't seen him in two weeks... woohoo!! Goodnight, I'm off to read some Harry Potter :)
